Ape
Ape came to America as an exchange student from Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda in 2007. Her parents were in the entertainment industry and starred in the feature film, Gorillas In The Mist. With a liberal upbringing in the arts, Ape was drawn to music and grew into an incredibly well-rounded musician.
She worked as a bartender at Ginger’s Bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn, but earned a decent living as a studio musician and advertising composer when the work was there. For five years Ape played the lead guitar in a relatively successful Christian Rock Band called Come To Jesus and received critical acclaim for their single, “In A Garden Of Eden” (which RNRB would one day cover), though she would later be kicked out once it’s members learned of her belief in evolution.
Ape joined POPP in 2012 and soon became the primary songwriter. She is an extremely talented, intelligent, and strong woman and is a role model and mentor to both Elephant, and countless fans.
Giraffe
Giraffe was born and raised in Brooklyn and worked as a server at The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Gowanus where Sludgie The Whale first performed what would later become their smash hit, “Dolphins On Union Street”.
He always dreamt of becoming a respected bassist and regularly played open-mic nights at Sir D’s Coffee Shop across the street from the famed Park Slope Food Coop. Though talented, Giraffe struggled with low self-esteem and found it difficult to cultivate meaningful relationships with humans. One evening at Sir D’s, POPP’s manager was enjoying a cocktail when Giraffe was called upon to perform. His dexterity was astonishing, all things considered, and it was clear that POPP had found their new bassist. Giraffe fit in fairly well with the other members and felt accepted amongst his fellow quadrupeds. The transition from rock band to RNRB’s lullaby ensemble was a welcomed change for Giraffe, as he felt it grounded Elephant and humbled Lion.
